Automotive Network Update for Friday, October 21, 2022

Date
Oct 21, 2022

BNSF operating teams continue to generate improved network performance with an ongoing focus on effectively matching resources to freight volumes. We have achieved over 70% of our goal to hire 3,000 additional employees, including 1,800 train crew personnel and 1,200 new employees on our Engineering, Mechanical and Dispatcher teams. As capital maintenance season winds down and resource availability improves, fall harvest is off to a good start with trains efficiently moving crops to market, and we remain well-positioned to handle peak holiday shipping season. We continue to ease congestion on the network and mitigate supply chain challenges from impacting our network by working collaboratively with our customers.

Some traffic along the Southern Transcon experienced delays on Sunday due to high wind gusts of around 75 miles per hour on the western end of the Clovis Subdivision in central New Mexico. Traffic was stopped for about 40 minutes until the winds dissipated and operations could safely resume at wind-restricted speeds. On Monday, further east on the Transcon, BNSF teams responded to a service interruption approximately 70 miles northeast of Wichita, Kansas. BNSF crews responded quickly, and traffic flows through this corridor have since normalized.

A strong storm is moving through the western U.S. today. The storm is expected to bring colder temperatures, strong winds, heavy rain and snow as it makes its way across the Rockies toward the Central Plains this weekend and early next week. Wind advisories are currently in place across northern Arizona and southern California, and winter storm warnings are in effect in parts of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. BNSF teams are actively monitoring conditions across the network. In accordance with winter action plans, each of our operating divisions is prepared to implement procedures to minimize any service disruptions caused by severe weather.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
