Public Projects and Public Infrastructure and Investments

BNSF’s Public Projects and Public Infrastructure and Investments teams are key points of contact for the communities who want to deliver infrastructure projects that impact BNSF Railway.

For over 170 years, BNSF has safely and efficiently met our customers' expectations by transporting goods by rail over 32,500 miles of our network through 28 states and two Canadian provinces. Collaborating with public agency partners offers the opportunity to support infrastructure projects that cross, intersect, or parallel BNSF's network and presents an opportunity to maximize the impacts of investments. Our teams' efforts in building and maintaining strong, long-lasting partnerships with public agencies represent a shared commitment to safety, infrastructure development, and prosperity in the communities where BNSF operates.

We welcome the opportunity to work with our local communities and public agency partners to execute projects that unlock new opportunities to achieve shared goals.

Public Projects Team

The BNSF Public Projects team serves as the primary point of contact for projects that involve BNSF property, including projects that are on or near BNSF Right-of-Way. They play a pivotal role in the progression of these projects and provide resources and guidance to local communities, agency partners and other entities. See Public Projects Team map below for state contact information.

The BNSF Railway Public Projects Manual is a how-to guide for working with BNSF on these projects. It provides guidance on project delivery and expectations from BNSF’s perspective. This manual is not an exhaustive list of every type of project or scenario, but it provides a common starting point as we engage to deliver projects.
