Automotive Network Update for Friday, September 12, 2025

Operational Performance
Despite multiple service interruptions this week, overall service performance continues to improve. Car velocity has increased compared to both the previous week and the previous month. August set a record for dwell – our best August to date and one of our top three months ever – and continues to improve in September, down from both the previous week and month. Our local service compliance measure is currently averaging 91%, which has also improved from the prior week and month. While volumes have been trending upward, they were down compared to the previous week due to the Labor Day holiday.

As communicated, the main track on Union Pacific’s Mojave Subdivision in California, which BNSF uses to operate between Bakersfield and Mojave, is currently out of service due to a derailment that occurred overnight near Caliente, about 27 miles southeast of Bakersfield. Crews and equipment are on-site, and an alternate route is anticipated to be available later today, with the estimated time for the reopening of the main track still pending.

On Wednesday afternoon, a train derailment occurred approximately 19 miles southwest of Waco, Texas, along the Fort Worth Subdivision, which runs between the Oklahoma/Texas border and Temple, Texas. The main track remained out of service overnight until yesterday morning while crews completed the necessary track restoration. Normal traffic flows have since resumed.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Most of the network is expected to operate under favorable conditions during the upcoming week. However, we are monitoring and ready to respond to high winds and potential flash floods caused by a series of storms moving eastward from Northern New Mexico and Southwest Colorado across the High Plains through Saturday.
