Coal Network Update for Friday, August 29, 2025

Date
Aug 29, 2025

Operational Performance
BNSF operating teams are generating improved performance and building on the positive momentum going into the holiday weekend. Average car velocity increased nearly 2% versus the prior week. Terminal dwell remains steady as compared to the prior week’s average and levels in July. Our local service compliance measure, which reflects our timeliness in handling carload freight, is above 90% and improved compared to both the previous week and the prior month.

Labor Day Operating Plan
Coal trains - both loaded and empty - will continue to operate according to regular schedules; however, BNSF plans to minimize the number of yard, local and road-switch assignments at terminals on Monday, September 1, consistent with customer activity and volume demand. Connecting carriers who have reduced operations for the holiday may cause delays on interline traffic.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Most of the network is expected to operate under favorable conditions throughout the Labor Day weekend; however, multiple thunderstorms are forecasted for the Plains and Deep South. Heavy rain and possible flash flooding could impact Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas during the holiday. BNSF teams will closely monitor the tracks and infrastructure for weather-related issues and take necessary precautions to ensure safe operations.
