Major flooding across portions of Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri is causing significant disruptions to BNSF service and operations. Due to snowmelt and excessive rainfall, water levels have reached high levels in many areas.
BNSF crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible. As always, safety is our highest priority. While some traffic is being re-routed, shipments destined for locations in this region will continue to experience delays.
Here’s a collection of photos showing our flood recovery work.
With washouts and high water on significant portions of our rail network, multiple BNSF subdivisions are currently out of service. View the current service outages map here.
BNSF issued an embargo in response to outages through this impacted area. View the current list of embargoed destinations here. You can also view active all embargoes at the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Embargo Railinc website here.
Customers affected by the current embargo may request a change to bill of lading, waybill, service order or shipping document to divert freight to another location.
Freight diversion requests can be made through the Shipping Instruction Modifications tool here. (must be logged into BNSF Customer Portal for access).
If you have questions about your shipment(s), please contact BNSF Customer Support at 1-888-428-2673.
We appreciate your patience as we address this challenging environment.
